Sarah is not Running

All I have for Sarah Palin is the deepest admiration and respect.

Her decision to NOT seek the Republican nomination for President is one I had hoped might not come, but understand both her reasons, and why it might be best at this time for our country.

Her reasons are quite obvious. Though I wish she would have waited a bit longer, driving the media nuts with speculation, it is clear they were waiting to publish re-hashed Sarah-bashing articles and produced hit pieces. She scares the hell out of the left, and the sycophants in the media are merely tools of that faction.

Why it is best? Although I would have bolted the Cain camp in support of Palin easily, I believe Herman Cain likely has the best opportunity to heal what has been done to the image of failure being presented in comparison to race. The Barack Obama failure may be seen by some as a failure due to race, whether we like it or not. The FAILURE of Obama as any reasoning person understands, is in fact as the result of his backward ideology. The ideology of redistribution and submission to government.

Herman Cain offers both the experience as an executive, and the appropriate ideology that matches our country's heritage and culture. He and many of the other Republicans in the race believe in a strong USA, that is truly better than any other country. Perhaps it is his, or their time.

Sarah will serve us well by being a voice to keep our leadership in line. Few can rally folks like this incredible woman.

May God bless and keep her as a part of the soul of this great nation.

(WASHINGTON) --- Congressman Allen West (FL-22) released this statement today:

"Today's endorsement by President Barack Obama of the creation of a Hamas-led Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, signals the most egregious foreign policy decision his administration has made to date, and could be the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state.

From the moment the modern day state of Israel declared statehood in 1948, to the end of the 1967 Six Day War, Jews were forbidden access to their holiest site, the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City, controlled by Jordan's Arab army.

The pre-1967 borders endorsed by President Obama would deny millions of the world's Jews access to their holiest site and force Israel to return the strategically important Golan Heights to Syria, a known state-sponsor of terrorism.

Resorting to the pre-1967 borders would mean a full withdrawal by the Israelis from the West Bank and the Jewish neighborhoods of East Jerusalem. Make no mistake, there has always been a Nation of Israel and Jerusalem has been and must always be recognized as its rightful capital.

In short, the Hamas-run Palestinian state envisioned by President Obama would be devastating to Israel and the world's 13.3 million Jews. It would be a Pavlovian style reward to a declared Islamic terrorist organization, and an unacceptable policy initiative.

America should never negotiate with the Palestinian Authority- which has aligned itself with Hamas. Palestine is a region, not a people or a modern state. Based upon Roman Emperor Hadrian's declaration in 73 AD, the original Palestinian people are the Jewish people.

It's time for the American people to stand by our strongest ally, the Jewish State of Israel, and reject this foreign policy blunder of epic proportions.

While the winds of democracy may blow strong in the Middle East, history has demonstrated that gaps in leadership can lead to despotic regimes. I have questions for President Obama: 'Who will now lead in Egypt?' and 'Why should American taxpayers provide foreign aid to a nation where the next chapter in their history may be the emergence of another radical Islamic state?'

President Obama has not stood for Israel or the Jewish people and has made it clear where the United States will stand when Palestine attempts to gain recognition of statehood by the United Nations. The President should focus on the real obstacle to security- the Palestinian leadership and its ultimate goal to eliminate Israel and the Jewish people."

When faced with actual real cuts in their budgets, managers in either the private or public sector have some basic priority decisions to make.

Do you use these cuts as an opportunity to cut the average employees from your staff with the idea that when times are less lean, you can replace them with employees with a higher upside?

Do you evaluate programs and eliminate those that are not meeting expectations, contributing to the bottom line, or are simply “vanity” projects that fall into the want rather than need category?

Do you cut salaries and benefits across the board in an attempt to keep your staff intact, knowing that you might lose key personnel who leave because they have better offers or prospects for growth?

Do you lay off staff for a couple of weeks of unpaid furlough?

One option that few would consider would be shutting down your entire operation for almost two months, and then trying to restart from scratch after that length of time.

Yet, listening to the professional left react to the House passage of the Continuing Resolution, and the reaction of public employee unions in Wisconsin and elsewhere, you would think that this is the only alternative.

Shut down, doomsday, our indispensable jobs not being performed for a long time rather than setting priorities and funding needs over wants.

To demonstrate the point, the National Labor Relations Board announced that the $50 million cut they received in the House Continuing Resolution would mean they would have to shut down for 50 days. Of course, 176 House Republicans voted to defund the NLRB entirely, so the 50 days should seem reasonable in that light.

It is instructive that the fear mongering management style of the left never considers anything but the “shutdown solution,” in their attempts to rally people to continue the growth of government.

If the NLRB was managed like a business, they would use the $50 million in cuts to weed out the 20 percent poorest performers from their ranks, and narrow the focus of their efforts to only the most mission critical agenda items. But instead, they threaten a 50 day shutdown, because every staff member is equally valuable.

Of course, the reason the NLRB is facing this level of budget cut is because it is in classic liberal overreach mode, attempting at every turn to rejuvenate the Democratic base through creating a European style workplace. They aren’t pursuing this agenda because that is a model that works, but because it increases the power of Big Labor and the Democratic Party. So, naturally, a cut in their budget would be viewed as a direct assault on this power grab, which can only be met with the most extreme rhetoric.

To give an idea on why 176 Republicans voted to put the NLRB out of business entirely, just look at one case pending before the NLRB that threatens to overturn the Dana Corp. decision that provides for secret ballot union elections, and its ramifications for worker rights.

Under current law, if an employer and a union jointly agree to certify the union for the employees, those employees who were never consulted or voted on whether they wanted to be represented by that or any union, have the right to demand a union certification election. Seems like a reasonable approach to the law, since the imposition of a union on employees through some dubious agreement between the employer and a random union clearly violates those workers rights to self-determination in the workplace.

However, Big Labor objects and the NLRB is currently considering a case that would effectively take the employee choice out of the process, sticking them with a union that they might neither want nor need.

This paternalistic approach that pushes workers out of the union organizing process might be an ideal solution to Big Labor’s problem that they are being uniformly rejected by private sector workers across America, but it is hardly empowering the workers.

Upon further review, perhaps the NLRB shutting down for at least 50 days might be the best solution if they are going to continue rampaging against workers right to choose? It certainly makes the vote of the 176 House Republicans to shut them down completely understandable.

Anchorage, Alaska. December 31, 2010 -- Joe Miller made the following remarks announcing his decision to end his legal fight regarding the U.S. Senate election in Alaska:

As many of you know, I am a father. I have 8 wonderful children and an extraordinary wife. One of the primary reasons I decided to run for the U.S. Senate was because of my sincere belief that the reckless spending by those in office was bankrupting our country. In what can only be described as actions that are selfish, irresponsible and immoral, we continue to pass on trillion dollar deficits to our children. This delusional spending has no regard for the burden placed on them, and no consideration for the difficulties we place on ourselves.

It is said that a politician runs for the next election, but a statesman runs for the next generation. I have always viewed my platform as one that would benefit the next generation more than ourselves. It was a message that over 90,000 Alaskans endorsed and millions across the nation supported.

But we ultimately fell short this time. While it appeared unlikely that the vote margin would be overcome, we wanted to make sure that the vote count was honest and conducted in compliance with the law. Adhering to the rule of law is the bedrock of our democracy. We raised concerns about the election process under a state law that a federal judge recently ruled was “a poorly drafted state statute” and that the court suggested “the Alaska Legislature act to clarify it.” Recent comments and prefiled bills by Alaskan legislators on both sides of the aisle suggest that they too agree on the need to revise state election laws. Even the lieutenant governor has called for an internal review. All Alaskans should demand that this review is transparent and independent.

I have been criticized for seeking to apply the rule of law to this election, and I have paid a price for our approach. I accept that criticism knowing that often doing what is right is not the same thing as doing what is easy—or popular. The easy thing to do would be to ignore the electoral irregularities and move on to other things. While persisting in this fight, I knew my motives, and indeed my judgment, would be called into question. What is true, is that I fought this fight, so that candidates in the future would not have to do so. There can be nothing more serious, and more sacrosanct, than our election process. It’s the tool we use to maintain the will of the people in determining the course of this state and the nation. When the laws governing this sacred process -- laws voted into place by the people and their legislstors -- when these laws are disregarded, for whatever reason, all Alaskans should demand answers. And so, given the facts, and my position at the time, I chose to fight, for this process, and the rule of law. We were not successful in that endeavor, but the fight was a worthy one, and one I will not shy away from, should I be faced with it again.

As a Constitutional conservative, I respect the rule of law as much as I sought to have enforced the rule of law. I say today that the courts have spoken. To my many supporters who continue to urge me to appeal to the Ninth Circuit and the US Supreme Court, I say that I hear you, but the time has come to accept the practical realities of our current legal circumstances. We shall abide by the courts’ decisions even if we do not agree with them.

I stand before you today to explain where we are in the process and what our future plans are. I started my run for Senate out of a sincere love for my country and my state. There is no place more extraordinary than Alaska, with its wide open spaces, rugged extremes and individuals, and unparalleled challenges. And there is no nation more exceptional than the United States of America, founded on the unshakeable principle that God has given us fundamental rights that no one and no government has the right to take away. I voluntarily pledged my life and all my resources to defend this country and those principles. And I would do so again.

Like so many Alaskans, I have grave concerns about the course our country is taking. We are spending money we don't have. I brought a message to this state and I sounded an alarm. The way of the past, with its obsession for growing the federal government, out of control spending, pork barrel politics, corrupting earmarks, and its disregard for individual liberty, is destroying our country. Now is the time for us to engage in a national conversation about the role of the federal government, its relationship with the states and the people, and the need to balance and responsibly manage the federal budget. I also applaud the efforts of the Republican leadership to not only read into the record the Constitution, but to cite the Constitutional authority for each proposed law.

Unlike so many people in D.C. right now, I still believe in American exceptionalism.

I still believe in the American individual.

I still believe in the sovereign State of Alaska and the independent Alaskan.

And always, always, I believe in and maintain an unshakeable faith in God and his providence and grace.

Our campaign was an underdog from the beginning. Going against the establishment, and a political force with so much money and power standing behind it to defend the status quo was a formidable challenge that few thought we were up to. Many knew the risk of standing against such power, and still they stood with us. Our support network, many of whom we see here, and the will, passion and foresight of a great people were up to the task, and through the grace of God, we prevailed in the primary.

However, more than just a testament to the will of our supporters, defeating a sitting Senator in the primary reflected a simple truth--tens of thousands of Alaskans heard my message and knew its truth. And over 90,000 Alaskans said loud and clear on Election Day--enough! And in a state that is dependent on enormous federal funding, the fact that so many Alaskans were able to see beyond today and look to the future was an amazing achievement, and a testament to their character.

My message was honest. The truth cannot be hidden from the people any longer. But blunt honesty has a price. The messenger may not always be appreciated. It’s been said that in war you can only die once, but in politics you can die a thousand deaths. I like to kind of focus on the resurrection part of that message.

But in speaking the truth we saw how quickly those whose economic model depends on government waste reacted. These powerful vested corporate interests, funded in part by U.S. taxpayer dollars with no bid contracts, successfully organized against our messages of reform and fiscal responsibility.

The campaign is over, but the real impact of the outcome is just starting to be felt. We’ve seen in just the past few weeks what direction Senator Murkowski wants to take the country and Alaska, a direction that I campaigned against, and I will continue to oppose.

We need to demand that our elected leaders remember that “Freedom” is not unlimited financial support funded by fellow taxpayers. “Liberty” is not recklessly spending us into bankruptcy. The ability to prosper in this nation and reach our full potential is not based on how much the government can give us, but rather how much it will leave us be, to thrive and determine our own destiny.

People ask me what my plans for the future are. I know for a fact that standing down is not an option, and I will continue to sound the alarm about the state of our nation. But exactly what form that will take, I don't know quite yet.

I do know that I have a loving family and the support of my wonderful wife. We have a great state, and the support of tens of thousands of Alaskans. My supporters were the most loyal, devoted and energetic volunteers any campaign could hope for. I studied American politics, while I was at West Point; I’ve been a student of it since; I taught it when I was at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. I have never seen, of course I am a little bit biased here, I have never seen a campaign so energized, so funded, so supported by the base. Extraordinary. That’s one thing that ought to go down in the history books. We have been blessed beyond words by your contribution and sacrifice. These were people, who gave not just their financial resources, but their time. But beyond these sacrifices, and quite possibly even more significant, they gave us their endorsement. They took the value of their good word, built up with friends and neighbors over a lifetime of honest deeds and actions, and put that behind me and this cause. They placed signs in their yard and said, “This is my candidate. I stand with him.” There can be no greater honor, and no more humbling experience for me personally, than to receive the faith and trust of these good people. I will live my life trying to live up to the magnitude of that trust, so that no one who has ever placed that faith in me will be let down. To all of you, and especially to my incredible wife Kathleen, I say thank you.

People from across the country have reached out to us. Great leaders and minds of conservative thought embraced us and our message also. Again, let me say we are, and were, humbled and honored beyond words by this.

This is not the beginning of the end. This is the end of the beginning. While Alaska may not, at this point, have embraced the sort of reform that this nation and state needs to survive, hope IS apparent, as evidenced by the overwhelming message sent to Washington DC in this last election cycle. The American people are increasingly rejecting socialism, and conservatives are rejecting career politicians who stand for nothing save self preservation. These are great days, in that regard, and all who value liberty should take heart at these recent events. There is much to do, but the light has shone, and I believe, more and more Americans and Alaskans will wake up to this light, and embrace, and not oppress, those values that for so long in our recent times, we have forsaken.

Whatever comes next, I can make only one promise: I will work now, and for the rest of my life, to educate and inspire, and to fight to protect the things that have made this state and this nation great, and will defend with every fiber of my being, the hallowed principles outlined in the divinely inspired document that for over 200 years has not just ensured our freedom, but has been a beacon of hope for the entire world: the Constitution of the United States. Where corruption and complacency threaten to weaken it, I will draw the lines of battle and step into the breach. I would ask those who believe in these principles, and share this love of liberty, to step with me.

Thank you, all of you, for the privilege of being your candidate.

May God continue to bless our state, our country, and guide Senator Murkowski in her future actions.

No Labels - More Centrist Failures

“No Labels” launched on Monday morning with a conference in New York City featuring a “who’s who” of failed closet-liberal politicians attempting to create a fabricated movement in an attempt to make their agenda relevant. The “No Labels” agenda — which appears to be to campaign that voters are irrational for not electing Big Government politicians — has already failed to gain traction amongst the electorate around the nation. The election results on November 2nd, 2010 indicate just that.

The “No Labels” roll out featured politician has-beens such as Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE), Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN), Rep. Bob Inglis (D-SC), former Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), and exiting Governor Charlie Crist (I-FL). All of these politicians have been tossed out by the electorate or read polling data that indicated they were rather unpopular in their districts or state and decided to save themselves from the embarrassment of losing at the voting booth. Mike Castle specifically, who lost his bid for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate in Delaware this past September, indicated that the voters in his state were irrational to go against his support of Big Government projects like Obama’s “stimulus” and the bailouts.

The politicians at the “No Labels” launch spoke much too frequently about “hyper partisanship” that is spiraling out of control while failing to acknowledge that it is they that have led to the problem that they plan to tackle. The nation is too divided they argue, and “No Labels” will allow the “radical center” to have a voice at the table of government.

The folks behind “No Labels” must have missed the fact that a solid majority of independent voters sided with tea party movement influenced candidates in November that promised to put an end to the political establishment that runs the government. Independent voters rejected the politicians that are the very symbol of the Washington political establishment that “No Labels” is comprised of.

While the use of the words “hyper partisanship” (it felt like every speaker mentioned this at least three times a minute) and “starting the conversation” ran wild throughout the “No Labels” launch conference, fiction and myth ran even wilder.

For instance, one of the speakers in the evening program at the “No Labels” launch referenced a “hyper partisan gridlock” that is allegedly out of control in D.C. This person was obviously asleep for the past two years while Democrats ran Congress with solid majorities while simultaneously controlling the White House. No such gridlock existed. But don’t expect the folks at “No Labels” to correct the record.

Further, the politicians that were showcased throughout the event have been running the government in DC that they were critical of throughout the event. These politicians are the problem, and definitely are not the solution.

At one point, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg criticized the Founding Fathers for being wealthy landowners while attempting to make a point that there is a severe problem that only the wealthy have access to government power. Mayor Bloomberg must have forgotten the size of his own bank account, being a billionaire and the wealthiest politician in America. He must have also forgotten that he had the law changed that would have prevented him from running for a third term, which would have allowed a new, fresh voice to run the city.

While it is nice to think that politicians will come together in Washington to fix America’s problems while setting aside political differences, it is naïve to believe that “No Labels” will achieve any meaningful successes. If the establishment politicians that pranced around the “No Labels” conference were truly serious, they could show us by first removing any party labels they use and then actually focus on getting the nation back in fiscal order.

Such organizations like “No Labels” are just another tool in the D.C. political establishment’s shed of political tactics used to deceive voters in to believing the myth that they are doing the work of the people. The politicians behind “No Labels” are the same politicians that have run the nation into the ground.

If Americans fall for this front group, the nation will be in serious trouble.

The Singh/Kaur family came to America from India in hopes of a better life and increased opportunity.

The family settled in New York and has since run two gas stations in the West Harlem neighborhood of Manhattanville. For 25 years the family worked around the clock to maintain its stations and even installed a car wash on one of them.

The business is all the family has.

“This is their official business,” says David L. Smith, attorney for the Singh/Kaur family. “It’s what they do, it’s what they own — this is their livelihood.”

If you go to the family’s gas station now, you will notice that the car wash is no longer working. Why? The Singh/Kaur family can’t take out a loan to have it fixed.

It’s not because they have bad credit or wouldn’t be able to pay the loan off, it’s because they are being threatened with eminent domain. No bank will finance property that might be taken away.

In the same neighborhood, Nick Sprayregen owns his storage facility, Tuck-It-Away Associates, LP. He houses items for about 2,000 local families and small businesses within his four-building operation.

Sprayregen’s business has taken a hit. Possibly due to the economy, but mostly because of the same threat of eminent domain that is trying to take the land of the Singh/Kaur family.

Neither property owner is giving up their land without a fight.

The entity attempting to seize the land from these property owners is Columbia University, a private school. The university wants to build a new 17-acre campus in the neighborhood of Manhattanville.

Current New York law considers property in “blight” conditions, a condition of disrepair, to be able to be seized by eminent domain procedures. With a loose definition of what “blight” conditions look like, many corporations and cities have seized on opportunities to takeover properties they justify as “blighted.”

Columbia University partnered with Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), a quasi-government authority, to take over the land.

As previously reported by Americans for Limited Government (ALG), Manhattanville business owners’ attorney Smith and former New York Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Norman Siegel were able to prove that Columbia and ESDC conspired together to produce the conditions of “blight” that would then allow the ESDC to seize the property wanted by the university. They also found that many of the “blighted” buildings were already owned by Columbia and it was the university’s responsibility to clean them up. Because the university was not keeping the buildings and spaces up to code, many of the businesses in the area were forced to move out. Constant threats of eminent domain also caused them to leave.

In December 2009, a state appellate court struck down the ESDC’s actions as illegal. The case was then heard by the Court of Appeals on June 1st, 2010.

The decision from the Court of Appeals, as reported by The New York Times, overturned the appellate court’s ruling that barred the state from using its power of eminent domain to take private property.

A disappointing loss for the Singh/Kaur family and for Sprayregen.

“It is ethically reprehensible that a private entity should partner with a government agency to take private land,” Sprayregen says.

The Singh/Kaur family’s attorney went onto say that this battle of Columbia trying to take their private property has been going on for eight years. “Over eight years of pushing and Columbia has only made one financial offer to the family for the land. It was very low and completely inadequate.”

The only option left for the property owners is the United States Supreme Court. Papers have already been filed. Now they must wait with their fingers crossed in hopes that the Supreme Court will hear the case.

Smith believes they have a chance.

About five years ago the Supreme Court made a questionable ruling in another eminent domain case, Kelo vs. City of New London. Susette Kelo was a property owner in New London, Connecticut, when pharmaceutical company Pfizer decided it wanted a new corporate facility in her neighborhood. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the pharmaceutical giant and an entire neighborhood was stripped down for its new facility, shops, restaurants and hotels.

The rest of the story is even more devastating. Four years after the Supreme Court ruling, Pfizer moved out. Land that once provided families with a home was now empty and barren.
The case received national attention and since then, many states have reformed their eminent domain laws to protect the rights of property owners.

New York has not.

The eminent domain laws in some states are skewed such that if you have more money, more power, friends in the right places and partner with the right agencies, then whatever land you want can be yours.

Eminent domain was never supposed to look like that.

The laws established by America’s Founding Fathers were a way for the country to grow and prosper for the benefit of all mankind. Eminent domain was primarily in place to be used for roads and other public services.

Part of what makes America great is that its citizens have the right to own their own property. It gives them a place of their own, makes them feel established and gives them a sense of pride.
It is the American Dream, after all.

“No matter how big a business, private entity, corporation or even the government, the rights of a property owner should stand even bigger and stronger,” says Bill Wilson, president of ALG. “Their voice should be heard the loudest and their property valued the highest.”

The Supreme Court has another chance to right a past wrong in the case of eminent domain.
“This would be the perfect case for the Supreme Court to do some tweaking,” Smith says, in regards to the outrage over the Kelo case ruling. “We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed.”

Baucus' Chilling Effect on Speech

Raw, brute force — that is the preferred campaign tactic of Obama and his allies in the Congress.

On September 28th, 2010, Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) urging the agency to investigate 501(c)(4), 501(c)(5), and 501(c)(6) organizations for “engaging in political activity”, as reported by Politico’s Ben Smith.

Senator Baucus cited the 501(c) section of the tax code, writing, “The law requires that political campaign activity by a 501(c)(4), (c)(5) or (c)(6) entity must not be the primary purpose of the organization.” That is technically true. It is unconstitutional, however, and Senator Baucus’ letter demonstrates exactly why.

Not only has the tax code under section 501(c) been used to limit the types of speech that certain organizations can engage in — which on its face violates the First Amendment — now Baucus wants to use the IRS to intimidate groups and threaten their tax-exempt statuses “[e]ven if political campaign activity is not the primary purpose” of the group. This is designed purely to have a chilling effect on the speech of any organizations that are otherwise lawfully exercising their rights to freedom of speech.

The issue for Baucus boils down to disclosure. These groups are not required to publicly disclose their donors like political parties and candidates, although they must be disclosed to the IRS. For Baucus, that means they are not allowed to fully exercise their free speech rights under the First Amendment, even though the First Amendment provides for no such conditional exercise of the right.

Baucus is inviting the IRS to reinterpret the 501(c) section of the law, apparently to even rein in activities previously allowed for under that section. For example, he complains about the activities of Americans for Job Security in Alaska for promoting a referendum campaign, even though these groups are legally allowed to engage in referenda processes without any public disclosure requirements.

Under Baucus’ interpretation of the law, the Federalist Papers, which advocated for the adoption of the Federal Constitution via referendum, would be illegal because they were published anonymously under pseudonyms.

Justice Clarence Thomas had the same problem with the recently decided Citizens United decision, which upheld disclosure requirements of groups engaged in electioneering. In justifying his partial dissent of that decision, he wrote of the “the fallacy in the Court’s conclusion that ‘[d]isclaimer and disclosure requirements . . . impose no ceiling on campaign-related activities, and do not prevent anyone from speaking.’”

“Of course they do,” Thomas wrote, citing “real-world, recent examples” of intimidation: citizens receiving death threats for supporting a referendum, losing their jobs for appearing on a donor list, declining to donate to a candidate’s campaign for fear of reciprocity from a sitting attorney general, having their property defaced and damaged, and other clear examples of disclosure rules being used to silence speech.

“Disclaimer and disclosure requirements enable private citizens and elected officials to implement political strategies specifically calculated to curtail campaign-related activity and prevent the lawful, peaceful exercise of First Amendment rights,” Thomas explained.

“I cannot endorse a view of the First Amendment that subjects citizens of this Nation to death threats, ruined careers, damaged or defaced property, or pre-emptive and threatening warning letters as the price for engaging in ‘core political speech, the ‘primary object of First Amendment protection,’’” Thomas concluded.

While Baucus and other members of Congress are concerned about legally-constituted groups openly expressing their views, they apparently have no problem with fraudulent voting. FOX News recently reported on massive voter registration fraud in Texas, where a group called “Houston Votes” registered some 25,000 people to vote — but only 1,793 of them turned out to be valid.

This follows widespread efforts by groups like ACORN to submit phony voter registrations in several swing states, including Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Missouri. ACORN had a long history of such fraud in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin, and New Mexico.

If Baucus had a commitment to fair and open elections, he would be investigating a clear pattern of voter fraud by shady ACORN-like groups; not deputizing the IRS to be his thugs to shut down legitimate debate. In the least, Baucus’ efforts to silence that debate show how little he and his ilk have to say in defense of the disastrous policies of the Obama Administration.

Individuals speaking out, whether publicly or anonymously, for or against candidates standing for public office, attempting to influence the outcome of legislation, or promoting ballot initiatives are no threat to “elections that are the constitutional bedrock of our democracy,” in Baucus’ words. Phony voters showing up at the polls are.

There’s a disturbing hypocrisy emerging from within the “establishment” wing of the Republican Party lately — a belief that it’s okay to work against fiscal conservatives who garner the support of the vast majority of GOP voters, just not fiscal liberals.
On the one hand it is clearly permissible for establishment Republicans to endorse Democratic opponents — even work on their campaigns — in the event the GOP nominee is not to their liking. Yet on the other hand fiscally conservative, pro-liberty Republicans who offer anything less than their full-throated support of liberal GOP candidates are routinely accused of “destroying the party.” Also many of these fiscal conservatives — who happen to be advancing the very limited government ideals the GOP is supposed to stand for — are mocked by establishment Republican politicians and told that their movement will “die out.”

Frankly, the fiscal recklessness of Bush-era Republicans is what nearly killed the GOP — and it is only the socialist overreaching of Barack Obama and his Congressional allies that has afforded the Republican Party an opportunity to become relevant again. But can America afford another aborted “Republican Revolution?” Particularly if the party’s default setting is to put its own political interests (i.e. Washington’s special interests) ahead of the core beliefs it is supposed to be fighting for?

Along with its abysmal fiscal record during the prior decade, this dangerous proclivity for protecting fiscal liberals (while ostracizing fiscal conservatives) is the latest evidence that the GOP — or at least its establishment wing — is still every bit as dangerous to our pocketbooks and personal liberties as Obama and his army of socialists.

Perhaps the most glaring example of this trend took place in New York’s special Congressional election last fall, when liberal Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava — a supporter of the failed Obama “stimulus” — saw the vast majority of GOP voters in the 23rd Congressional District defect to the ranks of conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

With her support slipping into single digits, Scozzafava pulled out of the race — but rather than endorsing Hoffman, she chose to back Democratic candidate Bill Owens, who won the race by a narrow margin. Amazingly, in spite of his huge lead over Scozzafava, some Republicans still blamed Hoffman for “handing the seat to a Democrat,” a storyline that the national media eagerly lapped up.

In Utah last week, another “Republican” demonstrated his definition of loyalty to the party.

Jim Bennett, the son and campaign manager of soon-to-be-former U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, announced recently that he was working for the campaign of Democrat Sam Granato. In doing so, he declared that Granato’s beliefs were “more consistent with the values of mainstream Utah than Mike Lee,” the conservative Republican nominee who defeated his father for the GOP nomination.

Once again, these establishment Republicans apparently believe that anyone who takes the ideals of limited government, individual liberty and lower taxes seriously is some sort of fringe ideological kook — despite the fact that these values form the basis not only of the Republican Party, but of the American Republic itself. Fortunately, contrary to the wishes of GOP politicians like Dede Scozzafava and Jim Bennett — it is becoming increasingly clear that Republican voters prefer candidates who support these values.

The vision of government articulated by our Founding Fathers is not going to “die out.” Nor is common sense fiscal policy that upholds a constitutional view of government’s role in our free market economy and our individual lives. If the Republican Party wishes to regain the trust of the people it betrayed during the Bush years, then it should think long and hard about reversing its current “default setting” with respect to party purity.

Otherwise, its ideological impurity will continue to shine through.

We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce... Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and Hollywood . We will keep Fox and talk radio.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon and Volvo (now owed by the Chinese) you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

Yesterday, the Senate had an opportunity to overturn a tyrannical usurpation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifying carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases as harmful pollutants under the terms of the Clean Air Act. Sadly, Senator Lisa Murkowski’s resolution failed by a vote of 47-53, leaving the agency in the command-and-control position to set the nation’s energy policy with arbitrary limits on carbon emissions.

This basically means that the EPA is now free and clear to set as draconian restrictions on energy usage as it wants. Which will mean higher energy prices, lost jobs, lost business, and the blind imposition of a radical, environmentalist agenda upon an unwilling American populace.

In short, the Senate has affirmed the EPA’s singular authority to turn out the lights.

The White House is perfectly comfortable using the threat of unilateral EPA regulation against carbon emissions as an ongoing threat to bully Congress into enacting its own restrictions. That threat was echoed by Senator Mark Begich (D-AK) who said recently, “We need a comprehensive energy plan and if this keeps the fire under these guys to get something major done, I'm all for it.”

Even Senator Murkowski’s very reasonable, if not constitutional, proposition that Congress should retain the option set up carbon limits was rejected. Senate Democrats are cleaving to their back-up plan.

In case Democrats’ punitive carbon energy tax is blocked this session, and Congress does not put the U.S. economy back into Stone Age, then the EPA will.

So much for the consent of the governed.

Instead, Senate Democrats are affirming — not one Republican voted against the Murkowski resolution — that they believe that government derives its powers from the intimidation of the executive. This is an incredibly dangerous proposition.

This is turning the constitutional principles of the separation of powers, the rule of law and limited government on their head, saying that even the most basic limits to the exercise of power — that a law be passed and signed by the President — no longer apply.

Moreover, Congress is basically codifying the controversial, disputed science behind the man-made global warming hypothesis. As outlined in a recent summary by Americans for Limited Government, scientists cannot account for the lack of warming in the past decade despite increased carbon emissions.

It is that question that vexed Kevin Trenberth (US National Center for Atmospheric Research) of Climategate fame in his infamous email to Michael Mann Oct 12th, 2009: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't... Our observing system is inadequate."

Nonetheless, the Senate has now voted to accept — on faith — the EPA’s apocalyptic finding that CO2, a biological gas necessary for the existence of life, actually “threaten[s] the public health and welfare of current and future generations”. The EPA promises extreme hurricanes, floods, sea levels to rise, erosion, heat-waves, droughts, wildfires, reductions in food production, deforestation, population dislocation, and even more pathogens and allergens if carbon emissions are not reduced.

This is a tyrannical rule of the executive by fear, not settled science. Rule by an iron fist. And unless the American people now stand against it, government will get away with it — and more.

Cinco de Mayo is a minor holiday in Mexico, first marketed to Americans by Corona (yes, the beer company) in the 1980s for the express purpose of selling, well, beer. That it has been turned into a celebration of Mexican heritage is bizarre, and indicative of ignorance on the part of those who take it seriously. So why were five California students sent home from school on May 5 after showing up wearing American flag t-shirts?

One of the students (who happens to be half-Hispanic) claims that Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez called the shirts “incendiary.” Yet, on the next day, about 200 Hispanic students staged an illegal walk-out in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, shouting “Sí se puede” (which translates to “yes, it is possible” or “yes, we can”) and disrupting traffic. They were not disciplined by the school district, which begs the question, was Rodriguez’s decision to send the American-flag wearing students home racially motivated?

The First Amendment recognizes the God-given (or natural) right to free speech, which includes symbolic speech, or expression, a fact supported by numerous court decisions over the years. It applies, without exception, whether one is in a private residence, religious building, city park, or public school.

The administrators’ decision to punish students for expressing their patriotism on a Mexican drinking holiday is beyond absurd — it is flagrantly unconstitutional.

Students are free to wear what they choose to school; whether a shirt depicts an American flag, a Mexican flag, an anti-war slogan, or the face of Hitler, it is neither the duty nor the right of a school administrator to decide that certain expressions are permissible, while others are not.

And, no public official has the right to punish a citizen for wearing or displaying the American flag in the United States of America. Ever.

Fortunately, the school district seems to have gotten the message from outraged parents and patriots across the nation, and is responding correctly. Superintendent Wesley Smith wrote, in a statement released shortly after the incident occurred, that “students should not, and will not, be disciplined for wearing patriotic clothing. This matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken.” Some parents have called for the administrators in question to be fired.

Do Hispanic students have the right to display pride in their country of origin? Of course. The First Amendment does not choose sides; it protects all Americans equally. They have the right to do this, not only on May 5, but any other day of the year.

Yet, in this nation, America comes first. E pluribus unum. Out of many, one. Our many ethnic backgrounds take second place to our pride in being, simply, Americans.

While Cinco de Mayo is an unofficial holiday enjoyed by many Americans, its hijacking by racist Mexican groups like La Raza—the members of which dare to be offended by the precious flag of the nation in which they live—shows that there are some who, even in the land of opportunity, enjoy stirring up trouble without the slightest provocation.

Five patriots wore American flag t-shirts to school. Two hundred anti-patriots walked out of school and marched on the streets. Which group’s expression was more “incendiary?”

America’s Founding Fathers envisioned a limited government in which laws were fairly and evenly enforced and justice was blind. Yet as government’s lust for additional power and its appetite for new spending have both exploded in recent years, so too has Washington’s apparent willingness to play politics with prosecutions and government leaks.

We saw this trend at work in the recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) lawsuit against Goldman Sachs, which even a kindergartner could tell was timed to coincide with President Barack Obama’s “War on Wall Street” and the perpetuation of his failed bailout method of financial reform. We also saw it at work in the Florida U.S. Senate race, where an organized effort is underway to smear conservative candidate Marco Rubio.

In both cases these underhanded tactics worked – at least from public relations standpoint.

“Goldman case boosts financial reform efforts” one headline screamed. “Goldman charges bolster case for bank reform,” trumpeted another. “Goldman Sachs case could help Obama shift voter anger,” still another opined.

Of course Obama “categorically” denied that his administration had any involvement in the charges against Goldman – or any advance knowledge that the charges were being filed. In fact, he told reporters that his administration first heard of the lawsuit on television.

“We found out about it from CNBC,” Obama said.

That explanation strains credulity – particularly when you consider that Obama’s political machine, Organizing for America, purchased Google advertisements linked to the keywords “SEC” and “Goldman Sachs” just prior to the SEC announcing its lawsuit against the company. This was clearly a calculated move, which begs the question: What did Obama’s campaign team know that the White House (ostensibly) didn’t?

The Rubio case is every bit as suspicious. On the eve of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s decision to bolt the Republican Party and run for the U.S. Senate as an “independent” – headlines in the Sunshine State screamed of another curiously-timed scandal. Citing “sources familiar (with) the probe,” the anonymous allegation was made that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was investigating Rubio.

Rubio has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing and maintains that no one from the IRS has contacted him. In fact, he has said that he “welcomes” any investigation into his finances. But the smears have damaged his campaign, as polls taken just prior to the leak showed Rubio leading Crist in a three-way race by seven points while two weeks later Rubio trails Crist by four percent.

It’s no secret why Rubio is being targeted. Months ago Crist was a shoe-in for the GOP nomination, but his Senate campaign collapsed when he began to embrace Obama and his failed economic policies. Could it be that Obama is now using the IRS as an “IOU” to bail out Crist’s flagging candidacy?

Internal Revenue Code prohibits the disclosure of confidential tax information or releasing details of an ongoing investigation – not only by the IRS but by any government employee at any agency, including the President. In fact, it’s a felony punishable by a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison. In the interests of uncovering the source of this illegal leak, Americans for Limited Government (ALG) has filed requests with the Inspectors General at the IRS and the Justice Department asking both agencies to investigate. Additionally, we are asking members of Congress and the Obama administration to support this investigation as well as the prosecution of the perpetrator.

Only then can we be sure that this wasn’t a taxpayer-funded hit job.

In a broader sense, though, Obama’s allies need to be mindful that the executive branch of government exists for the purpose of administering our laws, not violating them. Their job is to conduct the people’s business, not engage in political espionage. America has already survived one administration full of taxpayer-funded “plumbers.” We cannot afford another.

Your Retirement Savings May Be Next

Could the Democrats in Congress actually be considering confiscating all 401(k), SEP and IRA accounts in exchange for offering Americans a “guaranteed annuity”?

The subject almost seems too far out there to even write about. While it is something that I had heard rumors of, I just couldn’t believe this type of proposal would ever be considered in America. Let alone become part of an active public policy debate.

But when the Wall Street Journal writes on the subject, and the House Republicans on the committee that oversees our nation’s pension system send a letter expressing concern to both Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis expressing concern, and then issue a press release on it, it is time to get concerned.

The least damaging scenario is that the Democrats are considering changes to the retirement security system that takes away the tax deductibility of retirement savings in exchange for using those dollars to create a new “guaranteed annuity” that will provide workers with a fixed amount each month. Sounding eerily like the insolvent Social Security system, these accounts would ensure that all people living in America had some small fixed amount of income each month in retirement.

However, this doesn’t really solve the biggest problem facing the Democrats. Their largest donors, organized labor, have a huge pension insolvency problem. Labor unions, both private and public, have severely mismanaged their pension funds. In fact, Moody’s considers many private funds to be in “critical condition”.

Believe it or not, public employee pension funds are in even worse shape. California’s public employee pension fund alone is reported to be underfunded by a whopping $500 billion (that’s half a trillion bucks or $500,000,000,000.00).

So, who has the money to make these colossal failures whole and keep union leaders and their members happy?

That’s right, you guessed it. The poor slob who doesn’t have a guaranteed pension, but has been putting off vacations and eating burger rather than steak for his/her whole career to put 5% of his income into a tax deferred retirement account is the one with the money. Right in his/her tax deferred retirement accounts.

According to the Investment Company Institute, in 2008, $2.4 trillion was invested by private citizens in 401(k) accounts.

Quite a tempting morsel of money if the Democrats in Congress can just convince the American public that they will be getting the security of a GUARANTEED payment every month, rather than dealing with the nasty ups and downs of the market.

As stated at the beginning of this piece, this isn’t yet a proposed law, but is merely a twinkle in the eye of those in the Obama Administration and in Congress who are desperate for cash to fill big labors pension black hole. But every bad idea starts as the twinkle in someone’s eye, and no bad idea seems to be too extreme for this gang of looters who have temporarily been given the keys to the nation.

So beware readers, when you start hearing about the need to avoid retirement risk coming from those who brought you government health care, and are in the process of putting into law a system that would monitor every single one of your financial transactions all under the guise of economic security.

Realize, that if you have been putting money away for your future, that these same jackals are eyeing your nest egg, to feather the nests of their political supporters.

Remember, forewarned is forearmed. So stay vigilant.

April presents both the onset of spring for most of a winter-ravaged nation and the odd calendar quirk of tax filing day being followed one week later by Earth Day. Both days affect one’s financial situation, but for different reasons.

Undoubtedly there’s an entire industry which profits from the annual taxation ritual, but the arrival of Earth Day always gives its own set of groups and industries their opportunity to seize the spotlight in an attempt to burnish their “green” bonafides – one of the most prominent and in-your-face examples being the NBC-Universal family of television networks (which includes the Weather Channel) going wall-to-wall with specifically themed episodes and constant reminders to reduce, reuse, and recycle for the good of Mother Earth. The Earth Day celebration has surely blossomed since the first one in 1970.

Despite what those on the Left seem to believe, in that forty year period we’ve come a long way in reducing the impact of pollution. Yet all this has come at great cost, and it’s a toll which is borne by those very people they were trying to help.

For example, the price at the pump or to heat your home is impacted by the $12 billion or so energy companies spend to conform with environmental regulations. On a larger scale, compliance with the byzantine layers of red tape in the environmental arena cost Americans over $220 billion annually according to a 2004 study by the Small Business Administration, and these numbers are sure to increase with legislation like the so-called “cap and trade” bill pending in Congress.

These hidden taxes add up, but rarely get mentioned when politicians tout a bill to clean the air or address global warming by adding a few thousand more pages of regulations to the volumes already in place.

At times these products of bureaucracy can produce ironic results. One would think that BP Solar of Frederick, Maryland would be well-positioned to profit from the push toward more renewable energy. Instead, the manufacturing plant and its 320 jobs are being phased out because solar panels can be made more cheaply overseas. Similarly, do-gooders promoting the creation of green jobs through building wind farms are surprised when they find a large percentage of wind turbines are produced abroad as well.

Environmental advocates may argue all the overseas manufacturing is because those markets are more mature than ours, and they have a point. Europe in particular is bedeviled by a lack of oil and natural gas resources for their population, a shortage which forced them to find other means of energy production sooner. While Europe has a reasonably decent standard of living, it’s clear that having a larger percentage of their energy consumption come from clean sources hasn’t advanced their status beyond that which we enjoy here in the United States.

For an economy to thrive while maintaining a decent quality of life there needs to be a balance. Certainly we’ve learned over the years that our planet doesn’t have infinite resources and we can’t be wasteful with that we’ve been blessed with.

But there’s a danger with shifting the balance too far the other way; it’s a cost measured in the loss of freedom. Being too restrictive can have the same harmful effects on us as unfettered polluting once did. Before the pendulum swings too far in the wrong direction, we need to consider what the Earth Day zealots are doing to our wallets before we give in to their demands.

Unions Dont Know When To Stop

Politics and policy has become surreal. Webster’s defines the term as “bizarre or dreamlike”. No word better describes the current state of affairs.

For yet another example of the “dreamlike” suspension of reality that is everyday Washington, D.C. consider the recent announcement from union-toady, Congressman George Miller. Miller is proposing to spend $100 billion on a bailout of local governments. That is $100 billion we will have to get from China or the Federal Reserve’s printing press to allow local governments to pretend a little while longer that they can act like spoiled children without consequence.

The Miller proposal would funnel the massive sum of borrowed money to local governments so they can “save or create” jobs. Boil it all down and the Miller scam is exposed as a temporary fix for the junkies who are attempting to avoid withdrawal at all costs. But cold-turkey withdrawal is exactly what they and America need.

The facts are well known. Government at all levels has grown faster than any other segment of the economy. Government, also, pays far more than corresponding workers in the private sector and has lavish benefit packages unmatched by any private worker. As the Cato Institute detailed in their January, 2010 Tax & Budget Bulletin # 59, the compensation scales and benefits of government are simply unsustainable. They cannot continue, there must be an adjustment.

But blocking that “adjustment” is the primary goal of labor unions. And whatever Big Labor wants, George Miller will try to deliver. So, the $100 billion bailout is meant for one thing and one thing only; paying off the unions and avoiding for even a little while the inevitable downsizing of government. Since the largest expenditure any government makes is on personnel, that downsizing means one thing – firing tens of thousands of unionized public employees.

Think for a second what Miller and his cronies are asking of American families, taxpayers and businesses. They want us to go deeper into debt, to the tune of another $100 billion, to pay employees we don’t need to do things that are of marginal value. We are eating our seed corn. This money will not be spent on things that will allow future growth and production or future prosperity. It is to be squandered on consumption. Like the raging alcoholic, full of bravado, we are maxing out the American credit card to buy lunch for everyone in the barroom.

The situation we confront is basic. We all know the nature of the choice. All of us were taught this choice as small children. We should all remember the story of the grasshopper and the ant. The grasshopper frittered away the summer, eating and having a great time. The ant, on the other hand, worked and saved and did without, so that he would have provisions for the winter. When winter arrived, the ant is secure and prepared while the grasshopper froze, starving from lack of food.

George Miller and his union masters are the grasshoppers of our time. They eat and drink and live in a dreamlike state where the bill never comes due. The only problem, of course, is that they do have a plan. They plan to stick all of us with the bill for their reckless behavior.

Its time we ants took matters into our own hands. The credit card needs to be cut into pieces. Local governments, as well as states and the Federal behemoth, need to face the facts. They have to live within the means of the people that fund them. The insane, surreal politics of spending and debt must come to a stop.

Any member of Congress, regardless of party, who opposes the Miller scheme should be praised and supported. Any local government that does the right thing and cuts its functions and personnel needs backing. Conversely, those who embrace the bizarre world of George Miller need to be shown the door. They are simply too sick to be in a position of authority.

When Scott Brown stunned the Massachusetts establishment, some state Democrats said it was time to hit the panic button. But I didn’t know they meant that literally.

According to yesterday’s Herald, Boston City Hall has been testing ePanicButton software. “[City] workers would be able to hit a button on their computer or push a pedal on the floor to summon help if an angry taxpayer storms into City Hall or if someone arguing a parking ticket gets out of hand,” the Herald reported.

“Angry taxpayers”? Aren’t those the people who showed up at those dangerous Tea Party rallies, too? I bet the Department of Homeland Security has a file on them!

Are we sure a panic-button protection is enough? Maybe we should equip every government office with a panic room. How about a trap door or even a moat? You can’t take chances with these crazed taxpayers. I say that if someone heads to City Hall with a “Palin 2012” button on their lapel, we should release the Rottweilers!

The good news is that for the moment, wronged taxpayers can still fight City Hall without worry that they’ll be tackled by security guards. The $5 million ePanic system is cost prohibitive. But the government’s interest in it is revealing.

Consider the thousands of businesses around New England that provide customer service or take customer complaints. Now consider how few of them fear their customers to the point of emergency panic systems.

Fox News just broke the story that the largest government workers’ union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), has contributed $9.9 million to fight the Tea Parties. They’re helping fund TheTeaPartyIsOver.org, which opposes the movement’s “dangerous” and “radical” ideas. When you take time from your private-sector job to show up at a rally demanding fiscal sanity, isn’t it nice to know part of some government hack’s tax-funded paycheck is being used against you?

As Jennifer Rubin points out for Commentary magazine, “The Tea Party movement, once defamed and derided, now poses a threat to the liberal establishment, so much so that they are collecting millions to undermine it.”

Remember when the idea of public service was to solve problems for the taxpayers? Now we’ve got unionized hacks who think the problem is the taxpayers.

Last week the Associated Press reported that the Department of Homeland Security had “conducted a threat assessment” on abortion protesters in Wisconsin despite the fact that, according to DHS, “they did not pose a threat.” Why would the Obama administration gather intelligence on American citizens merely expressing their political beliefs?

Why would government workers want trap doors at the RMV? Why would their unions be attacking citizens worried about spending and debt?

Because the liberal, pro-government establishment has seen the enemy and they think it’s us. And they’re right.

A new Rasmussen poll shows that 63 percent of likely voters think America would be better off if we threw out our incumbent congressmen. Interestingly, the group of voters Rasmussen identifies as the “Political Class” - supporters of big government and collective actions - wants incumbents to stay right where they are.

Like it or not, taxpayers, the fight is on.

ALG Condemns House for Voting to Buy $50 Million Beach in St. Croix

February 9^th, 2010—Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today condemned the House of Representatives for voting to purchase a beach on the island of St. Croix for $50 million as "an irresponsible handout to the owners who were not likely to be able to sell in this environment."

"How can anything Congress says about cutting the deficit or improving economic conditions be taken seriously?" Wilson demanded, adding, "If they're willing to waste $50 million buying a beach in the Virgin Islands, is there nothing too ridiculous for them to waste our money on?"

The final vote in Congress was 240-175. Not a single Republican voted to buy the beach.

According to a FOXNews.com report , the vote took place despite the fact that the National Park Service has yet to complete a study on the purchase.

The land includes 2,900-plus acres of beachfront property that, according to the report, "the Gasperi family maintains it wants to sell the land to the U.S. government in order to protect it from developers. Critics in Congress say there is nothing stopping them from doing that. They don't have to sell, or the family could impose a conservation easement on the land, preventing development forever."

"This Congress has lost all credibility," said Wilson, concluding, "It has broken faith with the American people and no longer even pretends to have the public interest in mind. They are looting, pure and simple."

January 18th, 2010, Woburn, MA—116, 483 registered Massachusetts voters are dead, according to an analysis conducted by Aristotle International, Inc. a software and digital database developer.

As reported by CNS News, “In Massachusetts, 116,483 registered voters are dead, 3.38 percent of the state’s total of registered voters. Another 538,567, or 15.6 percent, had moved to an area outside of where they are registered to vote.”

Americans for Limited Government Foundation’s project leader, Dan Tripp, is on the ground in Massachusetts monitoring the special election, and said that “for fraudsters, it’s a numbers game. It only takes a few hundred people voting at multiple locations to change the outcome of any statewide election, including Massachusetts’ special senatorial election.”

Generally, in Massachusetts, voters need to provide a name and address associated with the voting list at the polling location in order to vote. There is no voter ID requirement unless a voter registered after 2003 by mail and is a first-time voter.

According to Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson, “The implication of dead people showing up at the polls means that it’s no longer sufficient to win an election with a simple majority. Now, candidates need a 4 or 5 point swing just to pad against potential fraud.”

“And that undermines our free form of government at its very core,” Wilson concluded.

Nothing says screw you like the upturned tail from the backside of a walking away kitty who will gladly eat your food and take your attention when it deems it appropriate. Cats, unlike their canine counterparts are quite independent when they desire to be, and generally wont be following you around unless you have left the food bowl empty long enough. In fact its nearly impossible for the average pet owner to train a cat to do anything but use the litter box, and even that is because the cat WANTS to. The cat is typically neat, clean, and generally knows its power.

Dogs are indeed different. Loyalty is easily gained from a dog, and sometimes even given in a way a little too sloppy. The dog will crap anywhere, eat nearly anything, but is ultimately trainable. Dogs sometimes will try to hump anything, chase their own tail, eat garbage, lick themselves and lick your face, and sometimes roll in fish, but that's OK, because they are dogs, and are excused because of it. Yes, there are smart dogs, but even some of those get hit by a car once in a while.

Dogs seek an alpha, cats ARE the alpha.

Oh.. Cats are Conservative, and Dogs are Liberal.

There is a “good chance” that Obama Administration special counsel John Durham will recommend prosecuting Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Bush Administration officials for torture and other war crimes, as he concludes an inquiry Attorney General Eric Holder appointed him to undertake.

So says the Wall Street Journal’s Dorothy Rabinowitz. Last week on FOX News’ "The Journal Editorial Report," Wall Street Journal editors discussed predictions for the New Year. Paul Gigot noted that Durham is due to make his recommendations on whether “CIA and Bush administration officials should be indicted for their antiterror policies.”

Replied Rabinowitz, “There's a good chance he'll make that recommendation.” If he does, it will open an unprecedented Pandora’s Box of political prosecutions against outgoing administration officials for perceived political grievances. And a political bloodbath will be the result.

It is a process that, once unleashed, will be nearly impossible to stop. And it may ultimately lead to subsequent prosecutions made by future administrations. Reciprocity will be invoked on both sides of the political aisle.

In short, what were once mere political disagreements for the people to decide at large when electing their representatives could quickly escalate into a political war. One in which the executive branch unleashes law enforcement against government and military officials who thought they were doing their jobs in enforcing administration policies and prosecuting a war.

In this case, CIA officials who, acting in good faith, waterboarded the mastermind of the September 11th terrorist attacks and extracted information that thwarted another catastrophic attack by al Qaeda will be prosecuted like Nuremberg war criminals — by an American administration.

Deputy U.S. Attorney John Durham was originally chosen by the Bush Administration to investigate the destruction of CIA tapes. Attorney General Eric Holder recently expanded his role to include the investigation of Bush-Era interrogation techniques.

Ultimately, though, the prosecutions will not stop there. Even if that is the limit of what Barack Obama and Eric Holder are able to get away with immediately, it will set a dangerous precedent. Namely, the conduct of war by U.S. personnel will become a prosecutable offense in civilian courts. And politics will never be the same.

As Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson stated yesterday, “Not since the fall of the Roman Republic has a free nation sought to aggressively prosecute outgoing administrations for political grievances. This is a lethal threat to the Constitution. Barack Obama is playing with fire.”

He’s right, of course. If America goes down the rarely-traveled road of political prosecutions, it will change the rules of politics forever. And winning or losing will become a life or death struggle.

In short, it is a path that will almost certainly to tyranny and the loss of liberty.

But, believe it or not, it gets worse. The danger here is also a threat to the very sovereignty of the American nation.

As noted by Americans for Limited Government Assistant Research Director Richard McCarty, even if the Justice Department does not pursue prosecutions of CIA and Bush Administration officials, “it appears that [Barack Obama]’s enabling the international community to pursue [the] indictments. Obama just quietly signed an executive order giving INTERPOL even more immunity.”

Pursuant to the executive order, INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization), which works closely with the International Criminal Court, will no longer have to answer to the U.S. courts or be subject to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. In addition, Interpol officers will now have some immunity for crimes they commit on U.S. soil.

According to National Review’s Andy McCarthy, “This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.”

McCarthy asks, “Why would we elevate an international police force above American law?” Good question.

Probably to prosecute without any restraint whomever INTERPOL deems to have violated international law. According to an analysis done by ThreatsWatch.org’s Steve Schippert and Clyde Middleton: “[T]his immunity and protection — and elevation above the US Constitution — afforded INTERPOL is likely a precursor to the White House subjecting the United States under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC). INTERPOL provides a significant enforcement function for the ICC, just as our FBI provides a significant function for our Department of Justice.”

Predicted Schippert and Middleton, “[T]he next move from President Obama is likely an attempt to dissolve the agreements made between President Bush and other states preventing them from turning over American military forces to the ICC (via INTERPOL) for war crimes or any other prosecutions.”

As McCarthy, McCarty, et al, make clear, it is a tragedy in the making. Barack Obama is prepared to push America to the brink of political civil war to pursue a radical agenda that forbids the exercise of the national right to self-defense by the American people. Unfortunately, the consequences will not be his alone to bear.

For, as John Adams wrote in 1775, “a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever.”

Never had much respect for folks who call this buffoon a "conservative." But he really whips up his frenetic leftist angst when writing about the tea party successes. Idiotic tendencies he demonstrates by making incredibly vapid remarks in his recent column.

When he says:

"The public is not only shifting from left to right. Every single idea associated with the educated class has grown more unpopular over the past year.

The educated class believes in global warming, so public skepticism about global warming is on the rise. The educated class supports abortion rights, so public opinion is shifting against them. The educated class supports gun control, so opposition to gun control is mounting.

The story is the same in foreign affairs. The educated class is internationalist, so isolationist sentiment is now at an all-time high, according to a Pew Research Center survey. The educated class believes in multilateral action, so the number of Americans who believe we should “go our own way” has risen sharply."

What the hell are you talking about? Perhaps... you miss the undeniable truth here? Perhaps the "educated class" you describe is not so much so.

Nearing the year's end..

Some thoughts sent in to a reader's local newspaper.

The close of 2009 is upon us. A year ago; much fanfare, talk of change, and a theme of “Hope” heralded a new administration. The rhetoric had been appealing, and had been whipped into a firestorm by an adoring media, Hollywood crowd, and “entitlement seekers” of many persuasions. As is often the case when “Hope” replaces logic, common sense, and reason, disappointment soon follows. A totalitarian direction, propagating through the past several administrations not only hasn’t been reversed, it is accelerating.

Sharing culpability in this totalitarian quest are the legislative bodies, at both the federal and state levels. Legislative bodies like those of the judiciary, and executive branches, were intended to be taking orders, not issuing them. The government of “We the People” made up of three distinct and separate branches, has always been intended as one of, by, and for “We the People”. Sadly and obviously, this is not the case today. The checks and balances imparted in “Our” Constitution between these three separate branches have been marginalized, trivialized, and ignored. “We the People” are NOT free women, children, and men. When “Our” elected public servants assume their offices and fail to exact the will of “We the People” and the Constitution, which they all swore or affirmed to obey, uphold, and protect, we are no longer a free society.

When overwhelming public outcry for secure borders, no amnesty, increased domestic energy production, no stimulus, no bailouts, no government takeover of the auto industry are crammed down “We the Peoples” throats, we are NOT free. When healthcare is forced upon us, with the beneficiaries being the trial lawyers and big pharmaceutical companies, and the losers being “We the People” who must pay for it, we are NOT free.

When our elected public servants pass laws that benefit themselves, yet subject the citizenry to a lesser quality of life, we have lost our country. It is not a matter of losing our country. It is already gone.

The criminals who were sent by “We the People” to conduct “We the Peoples” business have desecrated OUR Constitution, OUR will, and OUR country.

“We the People” have remedies. We can vote them out. This hardly seems adequate. We don’t wait until any other criminal decides their career is over before taking action. Time, and the money stolen from us, will be used to buy back many among us with gifts, and handouts, paid for by unborn generations. “We the People” can fire them; after all “We the People” hired them. OUR Declaration of Independence gives us explicit recourse for the conditions in which “We the People” currently find ourselves and OUR posterity.

We need not split hairs, any and ALL career politicians must go, if their time in office (formerly called service) is greater than eight or ten years they are part of the problem not the solution. We may throw out a couple of good ones, but chances are slim, and the benefits out weigh the risks. After all random Citizens from off the streets could be inserted and do a better job.

This is OUR country, and it presently is in no condition to be handed down to OUR posterity. “We the People” through OUR negligence and complacency have allowed this to happen. Let us “We the People” make 2010 the year the Republic is restored, and OUR children are saved from the despots, oligarchs, and tyrants who occupy OUR offices, which have always been intended for public servants.

Let's just call it what it is, as one of my favorite economists Walter E. Williams writes in a recent Town Hall column:

"There is absolutely no moral case, much less constitutional case, for Congress forcibly using one American to serve the purposes of another American, a practice that differs only in degree from slavery, which we all should find morally offensive."

If you strip the health-care debate of it's sugar coated political buzz words such as mandate and public option, aren't we really talking about just another case where the government has decided to force you to labor for the benefit of someone else? At the rate we are going, how long will it be before you'll be spending more of your time working for others rather than yourself. Isn't that so very altruistic of you!

If the Health Care Police (HCP), I assume they would be the ones in charge of enforcing the governments health care mandate, knocked on your door every other Monday morning and forced your college educated 22 year old daughter to work all day picking up trash on the side of the highway you'd be horrified. You'd want some answers! What dastardly criminal act could she have committed to deserve such a punishment, keeping her out of work all day and thereby depriving her of 10% of her income?

They don't do that in America, you say. Well, not quite yet anyway, but they will soon if the Democrats have their way with health care. She will be forced by the government to spend an equivalent amount of her earnings to purchase something she had decided not to. Is this not also a practice that differs only in degrees?

As a parent, wouldn't you want to talk to the prosecutor to know what crime your daughter had committed that merited a fine that was upwards of 10% of her income? Shouldn't there be some kind of a trial to find her guilty before punishment is meted out, even if it is only a show trial like the one KSM is entitled to? Won't you be mortified to learn she has committed the most heinous of acts imaginable in our new Progressive Society? That's right she is guilty of working for an employer who does not provide health insurance, and has failed to purchase a government approved insurance policy on her own. Oh, the shame of it!

Your representatives in Congress are spinning a yarn that goes like this: legions of hospitalized young adults without medical insurance are the cause of the explosion in health insurance premiums. This in an attempt to justify a morally bankrupt and unconstitutional taking of private property. Their remedy? Mandate (a pretty word that means to force) that all citizens must buy health insurance. That's what they would like you to believe, but that is not what the facts tell us.

The fact is that they are bullying healthy young people into to subsidizing health care premiums for those in poor health who have medical insurance, those with preexisting conditions who have been denied health insurance coverage and those who are not financially able to purchase health insurance. The Progressive bullies in Congress always pick on the politically weak in society, in this case it happens to be young people, it's not like they are reliable voters anyway, and their perennial favorites, "The Rich" who will pay the freight to provide an insurance subsidy for the politically favored classes.

Will health insurance reform really be the rallying cry Progressives use to justify re-instituting a modern day version of Slavery in America?

Cap and trade embers still burn, even in the face of made up scientific basis, promulgation of falsified data etc..

The mind numbed faculty in our nation's legislative offices as a whole are bad enough, and hard to take, but when the Republicans begin to act like Democrats, or frankly like straight out Marxist top down managers of our economy, we have a problem.

It is almost impossible to overstate the damage Graham has done across the board by sleeping with the enemy on this draconian socialistic measure. Not only has he increased the chances of the once-moribund bill’s passage by giving it bipartisan cover, he has also served notice on the American people that he has now become nothing more than a carbon-obsessed copy of all that he once pretended to oppose.

Checks and balances slow the movement of the meanderings of the mush that seems to thrive on capitol hill, and to see some of the stop measures weakened by the likes of Graham, Snowe, Collins.. One must wonder if it isn't too late.

A worthy article I stumbled upon at the American Conservative.

Anyone not alarmed by the state of the U.S. economy is not paying attention. As our Dear Leader begins his term, the theory of very big government has the support of an alarmingly broad political consensus. Despite the obvious dangers—devastating inflation and the ruin of the dollar—the United States seems pledged to a debt-funded spending spree of gargantuan proportions.
In opposing this trend, critics face the problem that the perils to which they point sound very theoretical and abstract. Perhaps Zimbabwe prints its currency in multi-trillion units, but that’s a singularly backward African dictatorship: the situation has nothing to do with us. Yet an example closer to home might be more instructive. Unlike Zimbabwe, this story involves a flourishing Western country with a large middle class that nevertheless managed to spend its way into banana-republic status by means very similar to those now being proposed in Washington.

IT is a worthwhile read. History, our best teacher tells us much about where we go today.

Climategate: Falsified Research Scandal Rocks the UK

As world leaders prepare to meet in Denmark next month to discuss the implementation of the Copenhagen Protocol (the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol designed to cap carbon emissions in industrialized nations) one topic certain to be the buzz amongst attendees—at least unofficially—will be the growing "Climategate" scandal that currently rocking the United Kingdom.

Apparently, computer hackers broke into the servers of the University of East Anglia's (UEA) Climatic Research Unit. There, they found and published emails showing that researchers deliberately manipulated climate "change" data to hide the actual decline of the Earth's temperatures.

What makes this highly significant is that, according to UEA's website, the Climatic Research Unit's data sets are "widely used in climate research, including the global temperature record used to monitor the state of the climate system."

The site also boasts that the "Climatic Research Unit is widely recognised as one of the world's leading institutions concerned with the study of natural and anthropogenic climate change." At least, they were.

According to the UK Telegraph, "Around 1,000 emails and 3,000 documents were stolen from UEA computers by hackers last week and uploaded on to a Russian server before circulating on websites run by climate change sceptics. Some of the correspondence indicates that the manipulation of data was widespread among global warming researchers."

The hackers also published an anonymous note alongside the emails: "We feel that climate science is too important to be kept under wraps. We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents. Hopefully it will give some insight into the science and the people behind it."

Amongst the gems released is one email from the Unit's director Phil Jones in 1999: "I've just completed Mike's Nature [the science journal] trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie, from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline." Apparently, the agenda is more important than the facts.

Lord Nigel Lawson, a Conservative politician and journalist, and long-time critic of the "science" used to justify radically reducing the carbon emissions of industrialized nations, has called for a public inquiry into the Unit's practices. "They should set up a public inquiry under someone who is totally respected and get to the truth," said Lawson.

The UK Climategate scandal comes on the heels of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suppressing a paper by Dr. Alan Carlin highly critical of the "science" behind the "global warming consensus".

According to Carlin's paper, "the EPA's "Technical Support Document for Endangerment Analysis for Greenhouse Gas Emissions under the Clean Air Act" (TSD) uses data that is out-of-date and ignores the decade-long decline in the earth's temperature despite CO2 levels rising and CO2 emissions accelerating.

The EPA's official findings, Carlin reported, are based largely on the International Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) AR4 report published in 2007. That report's data, according to Carlin, "is at best three years out of date in a rapidly changing field."

Carlin wrote that the "IPCC projections for large increases [in temperature] are looking increasingly doubtful" in light of "recent substantial decreases in global temperatures".

Making matters worse for the Hot Earthers, the bulk of the data that has been used by the International Panel on Climate Change in its computer models projecting "climate change" has repeatedly (and conveniently) been destroyed.

And that data was compiled by none other than the UEA's Climatic Research Unit, as was revealed by National Review's Patrick J. Michaels in September.

In the real scientific field, there is a principle called "falsifiability," pioneered in 1963 by Karl Popper. It asserts that "the criterion of the scientific status of a theory is its falsifiability, or refutability, or testability." Therefore, the only way to prove that a theory is not true is to show that it is false. For example, the only way fully reliable way to prove that all swans are not white is produce one that is black.

It is now clear to all that the folks at the Climatic Research Unit took a decidedly different slant on "falsifiability." They decided that the only way to prove that their theory was true was simply to falsify the facts. And in so doing, they exposed themselves—and their adherents—to be nothing more than shameless frauds of the highest order.

Naturally, that renders the Copenhagen Hot Earther's love fest a groundless exercise in contrived futility—unless, of course, they intend to falsify their findings there, too. Which is likely the precise protocol they have in mind.

Thirteen brave soldiers are dead today because the United States Army decided to put the tender sensibilities of radical Muslims above the personal safety of the American people.

An overstatement? Not hardly. And to make matters worse, it is now clear that under Commander in Chief Barack Hussein Obama, the Army intends to continue this lunacy – no matter how many innocent lives are lost. And no matter how thoroughly it devastates our army's ability to combat terrorism both abroad, and at home.

Lest there be any doubt about the Obama policies, consider his admonition immediately following Nidal Malik Hasan's terrorist attack on U.S. soldiers at Fort Hood. No sooner had Hasan finished mowing down the unarmed "infidels" … no sooner had the assassin's screams of "Allah Akbar" faded from his lips … than Barack Obama warned the American people "don't jump to conclusions."

Now, lest anyone think that by this, Obama meant not to jump to the conclusion that Hasan was the shooter, such, unfortunately, is not the case. Said the President shortly after the massacre, "This past Thursday, on a clear Texas afternoon, an Army psychiatrist walked into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, and began shooting his fellow soldiers."

No, what this President meant is clear to any who listened as he soft-peddled radical Islam throughout his presidential campaign. His words are clear to any who heard his speech to the Egyptian parliament apologizing for America's intolerance. They are clear to all who know that his first call to a foreign leader was to Palestinian strongman Mahmoud Abbas They are clear to those who recall that his first formal interview was to Al Arabiya, when he condemned, not Islamic terrorism, but Israeli settlements.

And they are abundantly clear to any who remember Obama's own words from page 261 of his self-adulating autobiography Audacity of Hope. Apologizing for what he considers the horror Muslims have suffered at the hands of everyday Americans, he writes:

"They [the Muslims] have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Little wonder, then that Obama has, at best, consented with his silence as his Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and his top military commanders clear Nidal Malik Hasan of any radical Islamic motives. And even less wonder that he has allowed his Army Chief of Staff, Gen. George Casey, to take such patent idiocy a far step further.

Indeed, asked by ABC's George Stephanopolous if the Amy had "dropped the ball" by not recognizing any of a hundred and one different warning signs that Hasan had become a dangerous radical, Casey recited the Obama Administration's official mantra. We shouldn't "jump to conclusions," he intoned, based on "early tidbits."

And what were those "early tidbits?"

In 2001, Hasan attended the notorious Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, where he listened in rapt attention as the fiery, anti-American imam Anwar Al-Awlaki encouraged his followers to attack the infidels. Not so coincidentally, among Hasan's fellow attendees at the Center were two of the September 11 terrorists.

During his time at Walter Reed Hospital and the Uniformed Services University, Hasan, according to the New York Times, became increasingly hostile towards the War on Terror and Americans who defended it. Wrote the Times:

"A former classmate in the master's degree program said Major Hasan gave a PowerPoint presentation about a year ago in an environmental health seminar titled "Why the War on Terror Is a War on Islam." He did not socialize with his classmates, other than to argue in the hallways on why the wars were wrong … [S]ome students complained to their professors about Major Hasan."

Even more recently, according to an ABC News Online article, intelligence sources had a level of knowledge that Hasan was in communication with al Qaeda assets abroad. And according to the highly reliable web site, the Northeast Intelligence Network, "this and information similar but not directly related to such communications became a 'political issue' between government agencies and officials 'at the policy making levels' of the administration."

So, in view of all this – and the 13 martyred soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas -- are the Obama Administration and the U.S. Army, at last, ready to start heeding reports of radical activity among Muslim soldiers – before more shots are fired and additional lives are lost?

Not a chance. Here is the Obama Administration's official response, as enunciated by Gen. Casey on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday morning: "As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that's worse."

That, of course, is sheer idiocy. And it is time for Barack Hussein Obama to step to the fore and declare once and for all – honestly and openly – whether he still intends to "stand with" the radical Muslims even to the extent of protecting "diversity" over American lives. If not, we have every right to "jump" to our own conclusions.

When they cut their deal with the Administration the insurance companies rolled the dice and came up snake eyes. They traded away proper insurance underwriting practices in order to capture a larger customer base, one that would be guaranteed through government force. Like their auto company brethren who struck their own Faustian bargains before them, they have come away a several fingers shy!

After promising the insurance companies a government mandate that would force young people under penalty of fines to purchase insurance (not very American sounding, is it?) the administration's minions in the Finance Committee said Oops, we lied. They watered down their mandate, delaying it's start date and reducing the penalties enough as to make it ineffective, leaving the insurance industry hanging out to dry.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to shed a single tear for the insurance companies. The bargain they sought with the Administration was despicable. They know how insurance works and doesn't work, and have played the go along get along game with the government for far too long, instead of being a force for positive change. This time it came back to bite them, and they're going to need stitches to close the wound.

The Government in it's extremely finite wisdom is doing exactly the wrong things to fix the problem of rising health care costs.

A quick history lesson for those who have forgotten. It was the Government's involvement in health care, subsidizing employer sponsored insurance payments by making them tax deductible, in order to cure other problems it created by imposing wage and price controls during World War II, that started us down the road to health care ruin in the first place. When you subsidize something the demand for it goes up. It's like having a clearance sale! The very same politicians who believe so strongly in incentives when they are handing out $7,500 of your tax dollars so their fellow eco-warriors can drive green in a $40,000 electric vehicle are just undone by the fact that subsidizing health care has lead to an increased demand for it.

The solution to rising health care costs is LESS GOVERNMENT, NOT MORE!

The government needs to let insurance companies get back to selling insurance, which is a protection against a loss that is not economically recoverable from. Insurance is not a payment system designed to take the brain power out of the decision to go see a doctor simply because the cost of that visit is near zero.

The government needs to stop subsidizing health care via the tax code. When consumers of health care start to pay the real costs of the health care they purchase they will respond, like they do when the price of any other commodity they purchase increases. They will reduce their demand for it.

The government mandating what procedures need to be included in an individual's policy needs to end. Only the consumer can know what is of real value to them, and what they are willing to freely exchange their hard earned dollars for. When they are able to shop and compare costs and benefits, they will.

We need to let doctors be doctors and practice medicine again, instead of having to practice the bizarre form of health care CYA that an out-of-control trial lawyer lobby has forced upon them through outrageous malpractice awards.

Until we get the Government out health care, no real reform will be possible, and Government will continue to play their game, which is to shift costs onto what ever group happens to occupy their demon of the day spotlight.

Our Love is Here to Stay

I have to admit that I was wrong about Sarah Palin.

Oh, not after the McCain debacle, when I wrote her a "love note" of sorts thanking that game lady for having been the only bright spot in that otherwise horrific display of Republican ineptitude. I thanked her for providing us all "one, brief, shining moment." As indeed she did. And still does.

No, I was wrong back when she stepped down as Governor of Alaska, and I, like so many others, opined to friends that she had made a politically fatal error. Now, I Stantonized, she "belonged to the ages." And it was our loss.

But, I'm happy to say, the inimitable Sarah has proved me wrong. Ms. Palin, it seems, has more lives than nine cats. And all of the negative smears by the mainstream media from 30 Rock to Ted Turnerville won't be able to muss a hair on her comely, cunning head.

(Nor will the fact that, as I am typing this column, I notice that lefty Bill Gates' Microsoft has not yet made "Palin" a part of the Word lexicon. Come on, Bill, if a weird word like "Obama" no longer brings up spell check, it's time to give Sarah Palin her just due. She is now part of the American scene, so try to stay up with the times.)

Simply put, Sarah Palin is a political phenomenon. We now hang on her every word. And we cheer her every pronouncement. When she speaks, people listen – because she is the one politician in America willing to say what's on the hearts and minds of the vast mass of the American people. She says it loud, and she says it clear. And she doesn't give a hoot in Hades whether the mainstream media and their political puppet masters like it or not.

From a personal perspective, I can tell you in a New York minute that Sarah Palin is the only politician in American today I would cross the street to see. And Barack Obama, of course, leads the pack of those I would cross the country to avoid. Which helps explain why Sarah's new autobio is already #1 on Barnes & Nobles' best-sellers list – a full six weeks before its release!

What makes Sarah such a unique phenomenon – and what keeps freedom's foes awake at night wondering what she'll do next? Quite simply, it is the fact that her appeal is indefinable. And one of the first rules of the far left's "politics of personal destruction" is that one must first define, before one can then destroy, the enemy.

The real reason the far left hates Sarah Palin, of course, is that she embodies -- top to bottom, inside and out -- all that they hate to the very marrow of their poisonous bones.

She has borne a Downs Syndrome baby and refused to abort it even after she knew that, in their opinion, it had proven to be "defective." She believes in the basic soundness of the American system and the wholesome values that made this nation as good as it is great. She has insisted upon being married to the same man for more than 20 years in the far left's toss-them-off and trade-them-in society. And to top it off, she even believes in God!

In sum, Sarah Palin is an outright affront to the ruinous situational ethics by which the left defines its very existence.

For that, those on the left can never forgive her. And, for that as well, those on the right can never forget – and will not abandon -- her. In short, our love is here to stay.

So, now the die is cast. I'm happy to say, I was wrong. Sarah was right. And, Barack Obama's utmost inner longings notwithstanding, that blur in a skirt he sees fast approaching over his right shoulder isn't going anywhere any time soon – except, perhaps, to the Oval Office.

August 8th, 2009, St. Louis, MO—St. Louis Tea Party will be protesting tomorrow is to demand justice for Kenneth Gladney, an African-American conservative who was brutally beaten by 4 individuals, at least 2 of whom were identified as SEIU representatives. The beatings included racial slurs and required hospitalization of Mr. Gladney.

As videos show, the attack was unprovoked and no one retaliated against the union thugs.

This attack followed hours of taunts and verbal assaults by SEIU and ACORN members upon citizens gathered to express their views under the First Amendment. We believe this brutal beating is part of an organized plan to suppress dissent to the Administration's planned seizure of the medical industry in the United States.

Anyone who believes in non-violent protest, in the rule of law, in the right of black men and women to express conservative political views, in the right to peaceably assemble, to speak freely, and to petition Congress for a redress of grievances is invited to attend.

The Tea Party specifically requests the NAACP and the ACLU to come out in support of Kenneth Gladney's rights which were trampled by these hooligans. We call on Representative Russ Carnahan to denounce the beating. We call on President Obama to denounce the beatings. My theme is the intellectual decline of conservatism, and it is notable that the policies of the new conservatism are powered largely by emotion and religion and have for the most part weak intellectual groundings.

This part is opinion, sharing no fact to back up its claim. Whereas I can demonstrate by statics that global warming is indeed not happening, or is so sporadically so, that the label has had to morph to "climate change" for SOME level of validity. A preoccupation with abortion, an act which now is according to the most astounding poll results untenable to 51% of the country. And the spending and logistical failures of the previous administration definitely quite absurd, though priorities could well be argued and parsed.

If you fear the "Christians" or anti abortionists, or global warming deniers, or military supporters, lower tax policy wonks, or [homophobes - those who prefer not to bestow "special rights" on persons who engage in unnatural sex acts ] within the party trying to pull back a little to the right, yet accept more regulation, restrictions of energy source use, government control of business, and new taxes to pay (and reward bad spending) the bills, then you might be a Democrat.

There is no good end to Government gaining any more power over us. Its role is one of keeping brother from attacking brother, whether from afar or near. Its legitimate local practices include real infrastructure for commonly used, and required services such as Water and sewage. (Though it can be argued THAT could be done privately) Public Health, Public Safety as a role is correct. Public financial safety net is not, and the environmental hysteria over CO2 is an issue far from settled.

The current conservative movement is going to stand by that. Conservatives are not saying "Moderates we don't want you," but rather "look, if you want to be a democrat, then be a democrat, because saying you are Republican but adopting Democrat philosophies in a relativist manner doesn't make you a Republican.." You cannot remain fiscally responsible while supporting the statist tendencies of the left

Posner suggests there is emotion driving the conservative agenda, yet it is the fear mongering of the green movement which has placed so many jobs in the crapper in this state alone. Consider the current CAFE standards which have the manufacturer's average MPG set at about 30, and at the same time safety lobbies call for increased enhancement of door frame structure, collapse zones, etc.. THEN there are PPM mandates as well. Emissions (real pollution) output restrictions lower overall efficiency in automobiles. Nothing emotional about that, as it is fact. Add to this recipe a dash of decades old union-government hand holding and you have shit pie for Michigan or any other state that builds cars.

Our government HAS to remember we have competition in other parts of the world which learned from us, and all the lessons which made us great. And now we abandon them in a panic inspired "we are turning our planet into a dustbowl" takeover for the statist left. So yeah, I disagree with much of his assessment.

We who work, live by the rules, make the best attempts to pay our bills on time, make no excuses for OUR failures, and become the targets of those who promote more of the flawed economic fantasy which brought us to this economic condition. Several of the most frequented blogs have now begun to criticize the tea party participants and even the few news sources who have "dared" to report on the events. Well, we hit close to home, those who support an ever burgeoning government tend get a little crazy. (Picture a few more Subarus or Volkswagens getting more bumper stickers plastered to the point of non rear view visibility.)

It can be hard for traditional Americans to understand WHY there would be so many who might be riled in antipathy towards a movement which merely reiterates the intent of the builders of our country; that of a "limited government." In Michigan alone, have witnessed firsthand the most remarkable failures as a result of central government planning and interference. A series of attempts by an overactive governor and legislative body that coupled with incompetent taxation schemes has destroyed entire industries, and left many without a reliable source of income.

So we, who bear the fruit of the work of well paid and benefited "public servants" find empty pockets all too often. But there ARE those who benefit FROM those public servants in a positive manner. But it is not whom many might consider. It is hardly the welfare recipient, nor is it the environment.

The welfare recipient; the presumed target of taxpayer largess through a bureaucratic skinning process, becomes the victim. The victim of a methodology which is designed to keep that person in a perpetual state of neediness. The victim of those who "serve," that carry a desire to remain in power THROUGH the victims perceived want. If the Victim raises to a higher level, there is no longer a need for the services provided by our pandering philanthropic public misanthropes.

The Environment; a place where we live that is going to be protected from the locusts known as human beings. Protected not by any real science, but by bureaucratic edict. Restored not by reasoned approaches but in fact ruined and made unenjoyable by limiting access, even to those with restorative plans and motives. Made worse through policies which promote lower carbon emitting combustion vehicles, but also lowering efficiencies which nullify the initial benefit. Further, the question remains as to the eventual safety because of increased toxicity of some of the substitutes that were used to save a few lbs of CO2.

The "winners," are those who are able with through heavy lobbying and promises to less than scrutible representatives of our will, move policy to favor whatever their enterprise might be. They are those who actually "write" the laws our lazy representatives forget to read, yet pass with too little discussion. The "silent partner" of a sort, to our representatives. A wink, and a nod. Complete with the promise of re-election assistance, simple graft, or a job later in life..

The recent Tea Party events threaten to upset this comfortable arrangement however.

And as the elected are now put on notice, the purveyors of disinformation swing into full stride attempting to destroy the legitimacy of the movement. With claims that because "Fox news" was reporting on the events, and had made plans to attend a few, it MUST be that they were "promoting" the event. All the time ignoring the fact that GE, which has lobbyists pushing heavily for carbon reduction laws through its "news" reporting and political posturing for the left that benefits its environmental concern financially. While attempting to place as a label on the organizational efforts of individuals a stamp of illegitimacy, as a method of nullifying the corrective effect of our efforts.

They are truly scared of this movement.

Kerikowske's Deadly Decision:
In 2001, a riot broke out on Mardi Gras at Seattle's Pioneer Square. Rather than send his officers in to break up the riot, Kerlikowske ordered them to stand by. So police officers stood at the edge of the crowd while the victims pleaded for help. Scores were injured, several women were sexually assaulted, and Kris Kime died amid the violence. Kris Kime, a 20-year-old college student and construction worker, was violently attacked after attempting to aid a woman who had been knocked to the ground.

Kime's family sued, and Seattle settled out of court for $1,750,000 and acknowledged that its police strategy had presented a public safety threat.

Kerlikowske, however, felt that he had made the right decision. "I think we moved in at the proper time given the size of that crowd, the mob mentality that existed and what I saw. And I take responsibility, and I stand by that decision. Every police decision, especially in this particular situation, is that we are damned if we do and damned if we don't." He added, “The criticism has been just unbelievable.”

Apparently his officers felt otherwise. Officer Ken Saucier, a member of the Seattle Police Guild board, said that if it's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation, "our contention is ... you might as well be damned if you do. We're paid to do. That's why most of the people get into [police work]."

"Police officers are sworn to do a duty, and they want to do that," he said. "When they`re held back, they're not able to do what they got into the job to do,” said Mike Edwards, Seattle Police Guild president.

I hope he fails too.

If success for Barack Obama means the continuance of policies aimed at destroying the constitution, I hope he fails miserably. Further, I hope he is finally seen in a fitting way as a thug president attempting to usurp powers which belong to the people. I also hope that the people are wise enough to see the direction these Socialist/Marxist Wannabe potentates would take us. Perhaps the 10th amendment will help for those who need reminding:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The founders knew things such as a welfare state would happen, and they understood human nature. History at the very least held the Romans out as highly successful Republic until a gradual change to a democracy, which eventually gave them the Caesars and special interests fighting for the rights to spend the treasury in whatever manner they saw fit. Governments all too easily can work for the sake of themselves, rather than for the people of whom they are servant to.

This is the very reason this country exists. It was a response to an overbearing, unresponsive beast which did not recognize the freedoms that are a birthright. The colonists knowing they would never be truly protected and represented by their remote governors said enough is enough. The founders then experienced firsthand the tyrannical response of the spurned Monarchy. The kingdom which denied the god given rights many of us take for granted, and would hold the colonists to a slavery of tithing to it.. or else.

Limbaugh understands this all too well as he has been the thorn in the side of the Clinton Presidency, and n0w for “his Excellency” Barack Obama. He is currently being attacked through the collaborative efforts of the whitehouse and certain elements in the press and congress itself. The Republican party which had been weakened by the two terms of the Bush administration has been tagged as now being “led” by Limbaugh in a move that hopes to weaken the party because of Limbaugh’s statements hoping for Obama’s failure.

The reason Democrats think this will work is because of the Milquetoast resolve many in the Republican leadership have shown in the last two decades.

The assumption is that to defeat Republican Ideals, the messengers must be separated, marginalized, and eliminated one by one. To attack the message head on would be folly, as most Americans STILL hold the belief that the constitution is still the law of the land. To wit, MOST Americans are actually Republican in ideals. Attaching stigma to each of the conservative leaders as they come forward keeps the cohesiveness of common conservative ideas from being enough to hold back a determined socialist agenda.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

People do not need to like Rush Limbaugh’s confrontational manner to support him, and in turn support the fight against an aggressive socialist agenda. We as a nation simply need to understand that our enemy is common. It is a gradual removal of the protections afforded by the constitution through unchecked legislative action, and seemingly increasing presidential powers. The legislative branch and the presidency are an affront to the relegated powers assigned by our founding documents.

Silencing the loudest and most clearly resistive voice to the destruction of those controlling forces which bind the state’s hands is the agenda of the day. Weaker minds will instead prefer to believe that “in the best interest” of the country, “divisive rhetoric” should be silenced and a back should be turned to the boisterous pronouncement that freedom is our best bet. That pronouncement coming from behind what is known as the EIB Microphone. The stand of an “entertainer.”

What is “divisive,” is the use of selected soundbites to further the dissolution of true patriots who have minor differences, yet share core principles. What is “divisive,” is the continued corralling of those who disagree only slightly with their peers, yet find themselves supporting the unsupportable by their own reactionary reflection of the day’s news, and how they are expected to “feel” about it.

We are facing great change. Yes.. I can only Hope it fails.

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (symbol=Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.
